New Years Resolution Thoughts

This time of year you may feel the collective urge to clarify your goals and hit the ground running 🏃🏻‍♂️🏃🏻‍♂️. New habits, diets and routines may come barreling towards you with a long list of to-dos. Monday hits and your motivation surges through the roof 💥, you got this new healthy, lifestyle on lock. Then, a few weeks past and the flashy new routines are not as exciting anymore. In fact, they are quite difficult to sustain with personal and work obstacles being thrown at you 😫. Slowly one by one, you get rid of your 'new healthy lifestyle' until mid February where you feel right back where you started.

 

Why is it so difficult to maintain a healthy new lifestyle for yourself 🤔? So often in our culture of 'more' and making your dreams into a reality, you naturally think that adding in new habits and routines will create the reality you desire. But, in the world of energy, this is actually only possible when you let go and release the unhealthy habits and routines in your life first ✌🏼. Otherwise, you will be trying to juggle two completely different worlds (your dream life while desperately grasping on to your old one), which is just plain exhausting.

 

So, if you are feeling a bit stuck on moving forward with your goals this year 😵‍💫, consider clearing out your old habits first. One of my favorite, quick and easy ways to see where your energy is being drained is to make an objective list of everything you put your energy towards in a week.

 

I know how confronting that may feel, but an honest reflection of what is really going on with you is necessary to fully accept where you are at 💕. Make a t chart and on the left side, write down everything that drained your energy (the things you don't love to do or felt exhausted after). On the right side, write down everything you did that filled your energy. Then, the next week, make one commitment to letting go of something from your list to the left and committing to something from your list on the right. Week by week, month by month, you can continue to outline your goals of letting go and sustaining what's necessary in your life.

 

A little word of wisdom for this exercise is to try to maintain non-judgement as much as possible. There have been times in my life where I was so exhausted energetically I couldn't get out of bed. I would never in a million years think that it was due to certain relationships in my life. The answer is not always black and white and doesn't necessarily mean there are toxic people in your life. It can mean that your relationship with them needs to transform in order for you to stay true to who you are and move forward with your own visions.

 

The beauty of this exercise is that as you let go of what zaps your energy and create more time for what fills it, it becomes much easier to commit to your goals. This is because you are learning how to crystallize your intuition 👁 without the weight of carrying everyone else's energy. Are you ready to create your best life yet this year?
